A selection of murals painted for holiday centres across Lancashire, Merseyside, Wales, and the rest of Mainland UK and Southern Ireland.
This pop up shop was created to sell toys and gifts to children in the entertainment venue. I designed the theme, layout, character placement and signwork and painted the MDF to look like tongue and groove timber panelling.
The staff crawl into the shop through the little door! When the shop is open the window board is removed from the inside.
A close up of the removable window panel.
A close up of Millie. This work is quite old. Parkdean have since replaced Max and Millie characters with The Starland Krew.
Max painted on the side of the shop.
The hatch for staff entering the shop painted to look like rustic wood.
A fun bright mural painted for Pontins featuring a few of their characters playing with balloons.
A close up of Action Pack Jack and Zena the Zebra.
And Megamix Mick and Florence the Ostrich.
I used to be given a free rein at Pontins to create crazy design ideas. Each centre had a toy shop in their venues called Trick N Treats. Originally painted pink and yellow, I gave these castle themed shops a makeover by painting the brickwork more realistically and adding the Pontins characters dressed in Halloween fancy dress. For this particular shop I also made scary characters for the roof and painted more spooky things in the windows.
Here you can see the spooky guests on the roof (MDF cut outs), spooky guests painted in the windows and the spooky Pontins characters that I redesigned in a spooky manner!
More spooky fun! I apologise for the terrible quality of the photos. The room was dark and cameras weren't so good 25 years ago!
A close up of Zena dressed as a witch.
This mural décor was painted with a combination of brushes, rollers and airbrushes.
Pontins wanted something to brighten up the entrance to their hire shop. A camouflage paint effect was very quick to paint and suited the outdoors equipment available to hire.
Another angle of the right hand entrance wall.
This décor was quickly painted using three colours and a brush on a background basecoat.
The other side of the entrance painted up in camo paint style too.
For this makeover I had to paint the ladies and gents toilets with graffiti style artwork. I painted everything with an airbrush but had to mask up literally the whole of each room. Floor, walls, mirrors, toilet dividers, etc etc. On top of this there was barely any ventilation so the paint mist hung in the air and it got difficult to see anything. Not the nicest of jobs and I wouldn't do another.
I was given a pretty open brief of decorating this kiosk area with the three services that were to be on offer.
I painted panels behind each category to help strengthen the design and to divide the information.
I painted a few cartoon faces in styles that are popular with face painters.
To the right are a few painted samples of the temporary tattoos.
Hand painted lettering on the back wall.
A painted example of hair braiding .
This was one of my earliest pieces for Pontins. It probably wouldn't be wise to use Pontins characters to promote fast food these days but we live in different times.
Zena the Zebra dressed as a diner waitress.
A view of the whole area.
This was the entrance to the outdoor activities booking office at Camber Sands Pontins for abseiling and zip wires etc. The cave effect was quick to paint with a mini spray gun over the top of a sandy coloured base coat.
Another viewpoint from further away.
A view from the other side.
This wall décor was amongst my first work for Pontins in 1997. I did quite a bit in that year for the start of their refurbs.
A simple design but a lot of cutting in and it took many coats of paint to cover well. If I was to do this job today I would project the spirals to get them perfect.
Another area.
Another spiral wall.
The General Manager of Pakefield Pontins was a huge fan of tropical marine fish. Over the period of his management he had me painting lots of fish themed artwork all over the holiday park!
A close up view of the shark!
Another Halloween themed Trick N Treats shop. If I had to guess, I think it's in the downstairs venue at Camber Sands.
A close up of Zena in a witch outfit.
And Megamix Mick dressed as Frankenstein's monster.
Following the manager's love of marine life, the café was rebranded as Coral Reef Café and I themed the area with underwater murals.
